The idea for this memorial flag was created the night before 9-11-02. On 9-11-01, at 8am I opened up my place of business, an auto-detail center, by 8:30am I walked my shop dog down along the Staten Island water front. My first and most obvious observation was how blue the sky was that day. I couldn’t remember a sky in my entire life that was so beautiful. It was a picture perfect day, that mesmerized me. Then in a split second, I looked to my left, what seemed to look like a smoke stack, leaving a trail of smoke, turned out to be the first world trade center, not a smoke stack, like I first thought. As I was overwhelmed, I fast tracked back to my place of business, to retrieve a camera to take some pictures, knowing this was something never to be seen again. When I returned and positioned myself I looked through the lenses and snapped the picture only to see the most frightening sight I have ever seen. A huge fire ball exploding from the second world trade tower, my eyes froze staring, my emotions ran though my body sending chills racing out of my sole. As I stood staring I again was thrown even further into the horror. Seconds later a tremendous heat rushed past me, followed by the sound, something like a freight train running straight into a brick wall. As I walked back feeling numb, then there was a continuous sounds of fire, police and emergency services rushing to the scene all morning and continuing throughout the day and night. This tragety imprinted in my soul for life, left me to search deep inside myself, to honor all the people who died helplessly, all the people who died fighting to rescue, and to all the people around the country and the world who extended their hands to help heal America. We thank you all, we remember.
